DOUBLE T – DOUBLE CROSS The Firing Of Coach Mike Leach: The Backroom Deal That Deflated the Red Raider Nation. Acclaimed author Michael Lee Lanning uncovers the backroom dealings that led to the firing of Coach Mike Leach and turned the Red Raider nation against the Texas Tech administration. 78 percent of all Texas Tech students and alumni believe Coach Mike Leach should not have been fired. 67.5 percent feel Chancellor Kent Hance and the Texas Tech administration badly mishandled the situation and never should have dismissed Coach Mike Leach. 72 percent have an unfavorable opinion of ESPN announcer Craig James. Based on survey of Texas Tech students and alumni conducted September 2-3, 2011. “I strongly urge you to not close this matter concerning Adam James … I don’t want to eliminate our ability to use this to our advantage should we determine to use it to terminate Leach.” — Email from Regent Larry Anders to Chancellor Kent Hance, December 27, 2009 “Contract obligates TTU to pay ‘completion bonuses’ (800K in 2009 and 200K in 2010) only if he is head football coach at University as of December 31, 2009 … but if we fired him on November 30, 2009, contract does not entitle him to receive the completion bonus.” — Email from Regent Jerry Turner to Regents John Scovell and Larry Anders, February 20, 2009

A Learning Experience I read a lot of the depositions, many from the Tech website. I read articles. I thought I knew this subject. I bought this book today, and am surprised about how many of the facts I didn’t know. This is an education into all of the dealings that went on to get Mike Leach fired as the Texas Tech football coach. I’m really surprised and shocked.

very informative A quick & easy read for the facts of Leach’s firing. I now know Leach was railroaded by the big chiefs at Tech & the James family helped them because the lazy son was not getting to play enough. I have no respect for the big chiefs or Texas Tech anymore & will be rooting for them to lose every time they play. I also will donate money for whoever runs against James for the Senate race in Texas.

Outstanding Book On The Leach Firing I live in Lubbock and saw all these events first-hand. Michael Lanning has written a very balanced and interesting account of the events involved with Mike Leach being fired as Texas Tech’s football coach. He provides much more detail than Leach did in his own book, “Swing Your Sword.” I was never a fan of Leach, but have always felt that the Tech hierarchy dismissed him because of his contract and to avoid paying him the bonus that he was rightfully due. Lanning’s account is very detailed, well-researched, and easy to read. I highly recommend it.Also, I purchased this book from Amazon because I could not find it in any of the bookstores in Lubbock. It wasn’t that they were sold out, it was just that they weren’t stocking it.Update (12/4/2011): The bookstores in Lubbock are now stocking this book.
